Minimally Invasive Surgery is performed through small portals/incisions, using cameras that can look inside the body cavity and instruments that can be inserted through these portals. New minimally invasive surgical approaches have been developed to complement or replace traditional techniques, and are performed by board certified and highly trained specialists.
Innovative Approach

Our specialists are at the forefront in redefining how surgery is performed in companion animals. By using groundbreaking techniques and most advanced technology for prophylactic, diagnostic, and therapeutic surgical procedures, CVS’ minimally invasive surgery (MIS) teams are committed to excellent patient care through clinical expertise, research, and education. Our surgeons work closely with CVS’ interventional radiologist, who guides procedures using advanced imaging equipment such as fluoroscopy, CT, ultrasound, and MRI.
Special Care From The Heart

Our goal is to offer companion animals a better alternative to common surgical procedures while maintaining their health and quality of life. Minimally invasive surgery results in less trauma to the body, less pain and discomfort, lower risk of infection, and faster healing than traditional surgery.
Procedures Offered

Minimally invasive surgery encompasses various specialties. At CVS, our highly trained surgeons can perform the following procedures:
- Orthopedics, arthroscopy that allows us to minimally invasively assess, both diagnostically and therapeutically, intra-articular or joint problems.
- Thoracoscopy, which addresses diagnostics and some therapeutics in the chest.
- Laparoscopy, which includes liver biopsies, ovariectomies, ovariohysterectomies, cryptorchid surgeries, laparoscopic-assisted gastropexies, adrenalectomies, lymph node biopsies, etc.
- Stent applications
- Intravascular minimally invasive procedures through advanced imaging and road mapping, which allow us to address complicated diseases such as intrahepatic shunts, tumor embolizations, etc.
Many of these procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, which is beneficial to patients easily stressed in a hospital environment.
Our minimally invasive surgeons are dedicated to providing the most advanced and compassionate care to your pet. CVS has multiple disciplines and specialists who are trained in minimally invasive techniques. We collaborate with each other on each case to ensure the best outcome for your animal companion. We also work closely with referring veterinarians.
Besides providing cutting edge treatment, our board certified minimally invasive surgery specialists are active in training and teaching, as well as clinical trials to help advance the field.
What is a Veterinary Specialist?
A primary care veterinarian treats a broad variety of animals and conditions. Veterinary specialists, however, must complete an internship, a two to four-year specialized residency, publish a paper in a peer-reviewed journal, in addition to receiving their veterinary degree. Specialists must also undergo a series of rigorous examinations based on knowledge and skill in the given specialty.
